What a great way to start the New Year 2022! The Shri Ram Universal School, Palava, has been awarded the ‘Earth Day Schools 2022’ award by the Earth.Org India Trust. It is among the six schools in India to be recognized for its efforts in empowering students to live sustainably.
The Shri Ram Universal School at Lakeshore Greens, Palava – is a signatory of the ‘School Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals’ and part of various global programs and initiatives such as the Eco-School Program, Climate Action Program, Young Reporters for the Environment Program(YRE), Kids for Tigers initiative, and others. All the school teachers have completed a ‘Green Guru Course,’ powered by the Lodha Institute of Teacher Education.
The school students participate in various workshops, webinars, and talks by noted environmentalists and conservation experts and study a unique customized Environmental Consciousness Program. Over the last two years, the students and faculty of The Shri Ram Universal School, Palava, have followed environmental policies that promote eco-friendly practices like waste segregation and recycling.
In an effort led by Principal Radhika Srinivasan, the school has documented its efforts towards:
- Effective management of waste
- Switch to renewable energy
- Reduction in energy use
- Turning the school single-use plastic-free
- Increasing green cover
- Recycling paper
- Promoting green mobility (cycles, e-buses, car share)
- Promotion of green spaces (Herb Garden, Butterfly Garden etc.)
